Catalogue Note

Alexandre Magnin, bijoutier, was born in Geneva in 1786, the son of François Magnin and Jeanne Françoise Girod. This mark was first used by him around 1812 and was re-registered (mistakenly listed as André) on 23 November 1815. When he died early, in 1830, his business at rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau 45 was carried on by his widow, Née Fanely Gentil, and their elder son Charles who later ended up as the last goldsmith in Geneva specifically to make gold boxes.
