  • DIAMETER 56 MM
• gilt brass full plate verge movement, cylindrical pillars, pierced and engraved balance cock, plain balance, the going train with fusee and chain, two polished steel hammers repeating on a bell, protecting dust cap signed David Hubert London 2063 • white enamel dial, Roman numerals for hour indications and outer Arabic numerals for the minutes, blued steel beetle and poker hands • outer repoussé case back depicting an allegory of Faith (with cross and book), Hope (standing with anchor) and Charity (suckling children), the sides with scrolling pierced and engraved vignettes, foliage motifs on the bezel, inner bassine case with deep back, band engraved and pierced by acanthus scrolls, numbered behind the bow ring, accompanied by a gilt metal leather covered case with piqué work decoration on the band, transparent case back 

Condition

Movement running, only hours are striking on the bell, the quarter repeating mechanism needs an adjustment. Enamel dial chipped on the 6. Very fine repousse outer case with some signs of wear, the outer leather case with strong signs of wear and missing parts. Overall the watch is a fine example example of a repoussé watch from that period.

David Hubert is mentioned in Baillie as an 'eminent maker'. He entered the Clockmakers' Company in 1714 and became a Master in 1743. Examples of his watches are found in the Guildhall Museum, London and in the Dennison Collection.
