Reference 5079 was manufactured from 2001 until 2005. A rare wristwatch, the present lot is only the fourth example to have appeared at auction. The case design is very similar to the reference 5070 over-sized Patek Philippe chronograph. The 5070 was itself based on the unique, vintage, extra large, aviator's split seconds chronograph, reference 2512 which is displayed in the Patek Philippe museum. Together with the 5070, the reference 5079 is one of the largest series produced wristwatches made by Patek Philippe.
