Literature
Alastair Duncan, Tiffany Lamps and Metalware, Woodbridge, Suffolk, 2007, p. 72 (for a closely related mosaic table lamp base)
Condition
Very good overall condition. The shade with approximately 14-16 cracks to the glass scattered throughout. Two of the smaller iridized glass jewels on the base with stable hairline cracks. The mosaic work on the base with some white surface residue and surface soiling throughout, and with some small and minor scattered losses to the gilt surfaces over the grouting. The bronze surfaces on the base with some small scattered areas of surface oxidation and discoloration, and with some small traces of paint on the feet. The impressive sculptural finial with gentle rubbing to the patina. The finial, sockets and pull chains all appear to be original. A superb example of this exceedingly rare and striking floor lamp design.

Catalogue Note
This elaborate and unusual floor lamp model is most certainly the product of a special commission. The model number 1549 on the shade is a variant of the "Fish Scale" pattern, however, in this instance it is further modified by the addition of a striking "Curtain Border" pattern composed of varied tones of brillant blue iripized favrile glass. The cast bronze finial in itself is an exquisite sculptural statement. The fact that the shade is stamped with patent information supports the notion that this piece was in some way experimental or a custom order. The elaborate mosaic base is known in one other example, utilized as a table base. The coordinated colors of the base and shade create a cohesive ensemble, no doubt designed in the period for a specific interior commission.
