The first AFL-NFL World Championship game was held on January 15, 1967 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The game was played as part of a new peace made between the two rival leagues.  For just $12, you could have secure a reserved seat for the game between the Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs. Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt is credited with dubbing it the "Super Bowl", reportedly after bouncing his child's Superball. Anticipation for the landmark event was less than super, however, and the game failed to sell out. The contest saw Vince Lombardi's Packers manhandle the Chiefs in a 35-10 victory. The following year brought more of the same for the AFL when the Packers again prevailed in a 33-14 win over the Raiders. It wasn't until Super Bowl III, on January 12, 1969, that the football world would be turned upside down, as "Broadway" Joe Namath's New York Jets stunned the Baltimore Colts 16-7. With parity on the field, the NFL-AFL merger gave the Super Bowl a status in modern American culture that surpassed even the World Series. It is the most eagerly anticipated, most expensive, and most watched event in sports. Offered here is a complete run (I-XLI) of forty-one original Superbowl ticket stubs.
