The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com , an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. This picture is painted on a single section of un-reinforced oak. This paint layer is stable and in very good condition, although it is most likely quite dirty and in need of a varnish. There are no retouches visible under ultraviolet light and although there is always the possibility retouches would become more noticeable when the picture is cleaned, in this case it seems unlikely. If there are any, they would be situated in the darkest colors. Overall the condition is very good.
