Condition

The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com , an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. Included in this lot are six panels which have been framed in two sets of three. The frames and the panels all seem to be unreinforced on the reverse and while they are quite dirty and dull, it does not appear that any noticeable restoration has been applied to either the frames or the panels. The paint layers on both panels are stable, although the gilding has cracked fairly noticeably in all six panels. There are a few tiny chips and cracks in the frames and some small paint losses on the top corners of both frames. Hardly any retouches are visible under ultraviolet light. The only retouching addresses some cracking in the dark cloak of the saint on the left hand side of one of the panels. The gilding all seems to be period and if the panels and their frames were to be carefully and lightly cleaned, and also retouched to address a little of the cracking and a few other spots, they would be ready to hang. Overall the condition is very good.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.
