Condition
The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com , an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
This panting on canvas has subsequently been lined onto linen using wax as an adhesive and then glued to a board. All of this is easily reversible. The paint layer is stable, clean and lightly varnished. There are very few restorations and the painting is generally in very healthy state. Apart from a few dots of retouch in the red tunick and in the boots, the figure is almost completely unretouched. In the background and landscape generally, the condition is lovely and to be recommended and hung as is.
