The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com , an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. This canvas has an Italian glue paste lining. The paint layer is probably slightly dirty but not unpleasantly so and we recommend that the picture be hung as is. Under ultraviolet light there are a few isolated restorations visible in the red blouse of the girl on the left, in a few spots and cracks in the upper right background and above the head of the mother in the center. Some slight thinness and introduction of the brown ground color has developed in the blanket around the cat and in the half-tones of some of the faces. In general the restoration has been very restrained and overall the condition is good.
