Catalogue Note

Mid 19th century labels attached to the metal backboards of these miniatures identify the sitters and record that they were respectively painting in 1784 and 1783. Further, it is stated that the miniature of Mrs Ludbey was exhibited by Shelley at the Royal Academy in 1783. This was presumable part of no. 350, 'frame with miniatures'.
