Catalogue Note

Born in Galicia, Wilhelm Wachtel's talents were recognised at an early age and he held exhibitions in Poland and Austria  whilst still in his teens. His paintings were influenced by his faith and religious background and in later years, by the Zionist movement. The following three works belong to his rare Palestinian period of the 1930s, and show his attachment to the pioneering movement.
