Description
The first decorated with an oval micromosaic of a female supplicant offering water to Zeus in the form of an eagle, the gold frame decorated with filigree and granulation, the reverse with a glazed compartment; the second decorated with a circular portrait of a woman wearing a turban in the style of Domenichino, within a gold openwork frame of scroll motif, decorated with granulation, filigree and a pair of grape clusters.
Condition
Frames test as 18 karat gold. The first brooch (sitting woman) has a pendant loop at the top, the frame is dented, micromosaic in good condition, backed with red fabric beneath glazed compartment. The second (woman with folded hands) has a bent pin, tiny spots of matrix missing, with Italian assay mark for 18K gold. Some tarnishing to both pieces, but in good condition overall.
