Description

  • Elizabeth Gage
  • length 16 1/2 ins.
The double-strand necklace composed of 42 mottled jade beads separated at intervals by gold tablet-form spacers decorated with granulation and filigree, the center featuring a large barrel-shaped coral bead suspending a gold wire hinge supporting a russet-brown jade tablet engraved with a dragon on the obverse and Chinese characters on the reverse, length 16½ inches; the matching earclips similarly decorated with oval corals and anchored by jade beads, the tops set with 2 round diamonds, necklace and earclips signed Gage.

Condition

All three pieces in good condition with light wear and areas of minor discoloration to the gold. The NECKLACE composed of 42 mottled green and white opaque jade beads, approx. 12.1 mm, enhanced by textured gold tablet-form spacers and conical terminals. Centered by a large pinkish orange coral bead, approx. 1 3/8 x 1 3/4", with obvious porosity and white veining (an intentional design element providing textural interest). The necklace is completed by a russet jade tablet pendant, approx. 2 1/4 x 1 5/8", carved with a dragon on the front and with Chinese characters on the reverse. Stamped EG on the terminals and GAGE on the pendant bail. Additionally stamped with English gold marks. The EARCLIPS, en suite with the preceding, are composed of coral cabochons similar in color and texture to that used in the necklace set within textured gold surrounds and surmounting 9 mm semi-translucent mottled green jade beads. Completed by 2 small round-cut diamonds, approx. G-H color, VS clarity. Length of earrings 1 3/8". Signed Gage with English hallmarks.
