The Constant Gardener Trust
John le Carré's novel 'The Constant Gardener' was made into a film of the same name in 2004, starring Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz. The film was shot predominantly in Kenya and during filming the cast and crew decided to set up The Constant Gardener Trust for the communities they had met and worked with during the shoot.
Their aim is to help improve basic sanitation and education for those communities. It is a small organisation also seeking to find a new ethos of responsible film making working closely with the people who can then make a difference for themselves.

"I am thrilled by the progress that our very small, but very effective, charity has made. It is very heart warming to see the progress of the trust's school in Loiyangalani and medical camp in Kibera. Thank you to everyone who saw the film and felt that even a small donation could make a huge difference. With the auction of this beautiful necklace, we hope to progress even further with the building of classrooms, something we take for granted in our lives, but is an extraordinary event in the lives of these African children". Rachel Weisz
"The auction of this beautiful necklace presented to Rachel by Steinmetz for her performance in The Constant Gardener will make a material difference to our work in providing Secondary Education in that remote desert area in which we filmed, and our continuing to be able to operate medical clinics in the vast slum that is Kibera.
I'm delighted to announce that we are committed to building a Science Lab in Loiyangalani before the end of the year. We can also ensure that the next two medical camps are planned and scheduled.
The positive feedback we get from the students as well as the very real gratitude from the people in Kibera is in many ways humbling, and I thank everyone whose contribution continues to make this work possible." Ralph Fiennes
