Description
Comprising: a rectangular vesta case with an engine turned pattern, the thumb piece set with a line of calibré-cut sapphires and a central cabochon sapphire, measurements approximately 44mm x 32mm x 8mm, numbered, maker's marks, British import marks for London, 1923, fitted case Cartier London; together with a retractable pencil on a lariat with a stylised stirrup terminal, signed Cartier Made in France and numbered, maker's marks.
Condition
Vesta Case: stamped 18 and 750 for 18 carat gold. 56908 and indistinctly numbered **7037. Sapphires a medium blue some calibré-cut stones with weaker saturation of colour than others, typical inclusions visible with magnification, some with small chips, central cabochon sapphire a darker tone with zoning visible with a 10x lens. Later bail attachment to top left hand corner, no longer fits snugly in the case. Tarnished, could benefit from a professional clean. Scratches consistent with age and wear. In good condition.
Pencil: weighing approximately 28.8 grams. Usable thick lead still in pencil, twist mechanism smooth. Case with scratches and indentations consistent with age and wear. Lariat with a small repair near to stirrup terminal, traces of lead solder. In overall good condition.
