- ivoire sculpté en relief ; dans une boîte en métal argenté

sous une arcature trilobée, surmontée de gables ajourés de motifs tréflés, soulignés de doubles crochets feuillus, au centre la Crucifixion entourée par la Vierge et deux femmes et, à gauche Saint Jean, accompagné d'un soldat juif

Condition
As can be seen on the photograph, the relief shows a few fine hairline cracks to the surface of the ivory, one of which is more profound in the lower left (ca. 2cm) and appears slightly on the Virgin's dress. A small element which is missing in the center of the upper rim has been filled. The silver metal case slightly bent and tarnished.

Catalogue Note
L'ivoire présenté ici est tout à fait comparable à une plaquette constituant jadis une boîte à poids et à balance, de changeur ou d'orfèvre au musée du Louvre (inv. OA 9355). On y retrouve une composition presque identique de la Crucifixion sous une arcature trilobée, et notamment la bordure lisse ornée d'un ruban gréneté dans sa partie supérieure.
