Condition
Illustration is slightly too pale. Please note that the gueridon is attributed to Barbedienne, not signed.
The design of the stem is really attractive ; the stem with wear to the gilding and traces of previous cleaning. The structure is solid and the piece absolutly stable. The griotte marble has a good colour, the top is quite stick.

Catalogue Note
Une jardinière réalisée par F. Barbedienne d'après un dessin d'Edouard Lièvre présentant un piétement comparable est conservée au musée des arts décoratifs à Paris. La collaboration entre le célèbre dessinateur et la fonderie Barbedienne est établie et l'exemple le plus probant est vraisemblablement l'aquarium japonisant (illustré dans l'Estampille l'objet d'art, op cit.) réalisé vers 1875 et dont une partie de la structure figurant des assemblages de bambous se retrouve sur le fût de notre guéridon.
