Condition
Very good overall condition. Minor suface dust in the crevices. A few minor chips to the edges of the terracotta, and to one child's toe tip. The initials F.C. appear to be incised to the back of the terra cotta. Very decorative piece.

Catalogue Note
Deux Amours près d'une source, l'un est coiffé d'une couronne à roseaux, et l'autre porte une couronne de fleurs. Ce sujet est parfois interpreté comme l'Allegorie de la Terre et de l'Eau. Carrier a réalisé ce sujet en diverses tailles en 1864, et l'Enfant Source figure dans ses ventes en 1883 et 1887. Une version en terre cuite est conservée au musée de Cleveland (inv. 1986.67).
