Condition
Overall the relief is in very good condition. There is some minor wear and slight spotting to the gilt surface. The back of the relief has been strengthened with plaster. The frame has 3 splits as visible in the catalogue photograph.

Catalogue Note
Ce sujet rappelle, en effet, les reliefs de Clodion représentant le Sacrifice de l'Amour. On y retrouve en général une Vestale debout près d'une urne chauffante, vêtue d'une robe à l'Antique et la tête recouverte d'un voile et d'une couronne de fleurs.
Un médaillon avec une composition identique en plâtre patiné est conservé au Los Angeles County Museum (inv. M.88.217).
