Very attractive pair of armchair with a very prestigious provenance; good condition, stripped wood; dents in places; stable structure; velvet in good condition; tears to the back cover (behind the piece, not visible from picture); to recommend.

Catalogue Note
Bien que ne portant pas la marque du château de Chanteloup au temps du duc de Penthièvre (à l'ancre flanquée des lettres CP couronnées), cette paire de siège ornait bien cette demeure à l'époque du duc de Choiseul quelques années auparavant. Il est probable que ces sièges aient quitté le château avant, ou au moment de son achat par le duc de Penthièvre, vers 1786. Cet élégant modèle, particulièrement caractéristique, est identique à différents sièges répertoriés, présentant également les mêmes renforts au revers des dossiers (voir notamment V. Moreau in Chanteloup, un moment de grâce autour du duc de Choiseul, Paris, 2007, pp. 254-257)
