Description
- Probably Jean-Mathieu Mabille (b.1733), apprenticed in 1753 and recorded in 1773 on rue de Grenelle.
- height 15 3/4 in.; width 14 3/4 in.
- 40 cm; 37.5 cm
the white enamelled dial inscribed Mabille a Paris contained within an ormolu case in the form of Venus in her chariot, drawn by doves above cloud banks and flanked by the figure of Cupid, raised on a bow-fronted base pierced with heart-shaped motifs centered by a plaque depicting putti.
Condition
Excellent quality chasing and color of gilding, better than illustrated in the catalogue. Some surface dirt. Hinge of glass cover broken and could benefit from restoration. Dial possibly replaced. Very original feet. Back with glass missing. Minor casting flaws. Very minor traces of verdigris. In otherwise very good condition.

An identical clock with a movement by Jean-Gabriel Imbert (maƮtre in 1776), formerly in a private New York collection, was sold, Christie's, New York, October 21, 1997, lot 210. Another, also with a movement by Imbert is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
