Catalogue Note

These vases which reflect the influence of the goût grec style, were almost certainly influenced by the designs of the ornemeniste Jean-Charles Delafosse.  A comparable vase, the central part of a group of five acquired by the 5th Earl of Essex in Paris shortly after the Revolution, is in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London (Hodgkins bequest), illustrated, S. de Ricci, Catalogue of a Collection of Mounted Porcelain belonging to E.M. Hodgkins, Paris, 1911, p. 42.
