  • height 34 1/2 in.; width 51 in.; depth 18 in.
  • 87.5 cm; 129.5 cm; 45.5 cm
each with a D-shaped white marble top fitted with a pierced ormolu gallery, the frieze outlined with ormolu borders and fitted with three drawers, raised on fluted supports joined by a conforming platform stretcher on tapered fluted legs with ormolu sabots.

Condition

The colors less red and more attractive than in the catalogue illustration. The marbles in overall good condition, with minor surface abrasions and scratches consistent with age and use. The brass mounts with minor marks, slight denting and minor tarnishing, consistentn with age and use. Minor marks and age cracks to the mahogany. The leg of one restored.

Catalogue Note

An almost identical console by Nicolas Petit (maĆ®tre in 1765) is illustrated, A. Droguet, Nicolas Petit 1732-1791, Paris, 2001, p. 104.  It is of identical overall design with two white marble surfaces, it differs from the present lot only in the design of the ormolu mounts.
