Catalogue Note
A set of eight white-painted and parcel-gilt fauteuils and two canapés, circa 1780-1800, are in Salon Louis XVI of the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, St. Jean Cap Ferrat, illustrated, R. Vian des Rives, La Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, Paris, 2002, p. 23. It is not known whether the suite is by Nicolas Parmantier or his son Antoine who also used the same stamp. Four fauteuils and a canapé are believed to have been offered for sale by the Baroness Ephrussi de Rothschild, Galerie Georges Petit, Paris, 26 June 1924, lot 66, however they did not sell, op. cit. p. 196.
