Description
- incised signature 'M. Essser 1925' to top of base, impressed Böttger Steinzeug and 'von 55 Ausformungen No. 8', incised model number A.1237 and cancelled crossed swords mark underneath the base, cancelled crossed swords mark to the rear of the base; the second with incised signature 'M. Esser 1926' , impressed 'Böttger Steinzeug' mark and impressed 'von 55 Ausformungen No. 5', incised model number A1090 and numerals 136. and crossed swords mark underneath the base, cancelled crossed swords mark to the rear of the base
- width 65cm., 25¾in.; height 35cm., 13¾in.
no.5 and no.8 of 55 examples, each modelled by Professor Max Esser, recumbent on a shaped pedestal, with heads turned slightly to the left and right, the trunk rolled inwards
Condition
One with edge of left ear restored, the other with both tusk tips restored (in both cases the areas concerned are soft to the touch but do not show under ultra-violet light). Crack to base of one tail (probably a firing fault).
