A Continental parcel-gilt and green painted armchair in Directoire style

with an oval brass studded leather upholstered padded back and leather covered straight arms above an oval leather padded seat, the rear and front supports in the form of crossed swords, with lioness head handles joined by a later turned stretcher; green painting refreshed

There is slight movement in the back which shows evidence of previous restoration on the reverse, but this can easily be re-fixed. The gilding is worn in places and there are old chips, marks and scratches generally to the decoration as visible from photograph, which can easily be touched up. Some minor sections of the feet have been chipped off due to normal usage. Hairline construction cracks at joints on the legs near the stretcher which can easily be filled. Old restored break just below the lion head on the rear left support which has been well executed and is not too noticeable. An unusual piece in overall good condition.
