Description

  • 76cm. high, 89cm. wide, 50cm. deep; 2ft. 6in., 2ft. 11in., 1ft. 7¾in.
of breakfront form with two long drawers centred by a navette shaped reserve, the canted stiles inlaid with intersecting roundels with a short drawer in the frieze, the top drawers inlaid with cube parquetry

Condition

Old minor marks, chips and scratches commensurate with age. There are some hairline splits in the veneer and there is a horizontal construction crack running two thirds along the top which shows evidence of previous restoration which is opening up again and which can easily be filled. There are also some minor losses to the veneer along the right edge of the top towards the rear and there is a lighter coloured patch towards the front right corner and some other patches generally to the veneer, which have been well executed and are hardly noticeable. The drawers have all been relined. The piece has been strengthened internally and underneath. The mounts are a bit dirty and the gilding is worn and the escutcheons are partially damaged around the keyhole and would benefit from some attention. Attractive model in overall good conserved condition.
