A Meissen group of Aeneas and Anchises circa 1755

probably modelled by J.J. Kändler and E. F. Meyer, Aeneas carrying his father Anchises on his back, wearing a feathered helmet, gilt chainmail and armour over a blue tunic and a lionskin over his back, Anchises dressed in a white tunic with a purple striped white cloth around his waist and his head, Ascanius walking to their left, dressed in white tunic and puce and gilt sandals, carrying a teraphim, on a flower-encrusted base (restoration to one end of Anchise's waist cloth, some minor chips to leaves on base)

The group is referring to an episode from Virgil's, Aeneid, Book II, where after the fall of Troy, Aeneas is fleeing from the burning city bearing his elderly father Anchises on his shoulders,  his little son Ascanius, carrying the penates, household gods and symbols of continuity.
