Description
cross swords mark in underglaze-blue
- 24.5cm. high; 9¾in.
the baluster body modelled in low relief with Venus on a shell supported by putti above waves and swans, the other side with mermaids and seabeasts among waves and weeds, painted with scattered insects, the gilt-edged scroll handle with female bust finial (flat chip to footrim)

Condition
Shallow chip to outside of footrim, approx. 1cm. by 1cm. Small nick to footrim. Extensive wear to gilt border around rim. Lesser wear to gilding elsewhere, particularly to handle. Small chip to moulding on reverse of jug, approx. 2mm. by 1mm.The gilt-metal collar around the handle is probably a replacement.
