A rare and unusual Spanish carved walnut and parcel-gilt folding bench mid 18th century

the cartouche-shaped hinged back surmounted by a cresting with the arms of Benito of Valencia, Spain, flanked by boldly carved scrolls and rocaille, above a similarly carved seat, on lion ball feet joined by stretchers and by wrought iron rods, the whole upholstered with polychrome painted embossed leather panels 

Colour slightly darker overall and less orange and more attractive than in the photograph. There has been some wear to the gilding as visible from photograph commensurate with the age of the piece. There are some construction cracks at joints, which are quite normal and which do not detract from the piece and can be left. There are also some restorations and wear to the embossed leather upholstery. The hook on the far left strut on the back is missing and the central hook is a replacement. The far right hook is original but the eye is missing. A rare piece in overall good condition.
