Description
- each: 70cm. high, 30cm. wide; 2ft.3in., 1ft.
each with a male and female musician cresting above a rectangular pierced backplate cast with a female mask flanked by flaming neo-classical urns, above a scrolled cartouche with ribbon-tied musical trophies above grotesque masks amongst scrolls and floral swags, with a scrolled candlearm and baluster shaped candle-nozzle
Condition
The colour of the gilding is less greenish more golden, natural and attractive than in the catalogue photograph. The silver coloured backs, frames, candlearms and figural cresting are later but the pierced panels are 18th century and very beautifully cast and chased. Very minor casting flaws and breaks in the pierced panels which are hardly noticeable. There is a very minor restoration to one pierced panel on the right wall light as visible in the photograph, which has a small circular section in a more pinkish coloured gilt but this is hardly noticeable and does not detract from the piece. A couple of miniscule sections missing from the gilt-bronze pierced panels, on one a minute section of flames and the socle on one the neoclassical vase at the top is missing. There are small pin holes around the border of the pierced panels which may indicate that they were formerly mounted on something else. The panels are most spetacular and may well look more attractive if the later sections eg the cresting and candlearms etc.were removed. The upper section of the guitar held by the male figure is missing. In overall very good condition.
The correct measurements are:
72cm total height.
48cm height-frame only
28cm wide
