the landscape woven with central trees on a riverbank, with a lake and island in the left hand distance, with a château on the distant shore, and another château appearing within the distant trees in the background to the right, the foreground with flowering plants and a tree stump, all within a narrow four-sided floral border, incorporating tulips and roses, and with distinctive coiled foliate stems in each corner, on a sable ground, with a narrow banded yellow and brown inner border, and a four-sided yellow outer selvedge
Condition
This tapestry has a linen lining. There is no Velcro attached. It is recommended that Velcro should be attached for future hanging. The tapestry is woven with thick polychrome wools. In addition to the yellow selvedge, there is evidence of a sky blue outer selvedge, which is tucked under on the left and right sides. There are some splits, for example see the splits in the lower border. There is old repair in areas, for example see the trunk of the tree to the far right. There is some later 19th century rewoven repair in some minor areas of the foliage. Some splits and repairs to the lighter coloured highlights within the foliage, which is commensurate with the colours and the age.
