Catalogue Note

Thomas Sheraton described 'Hall Chairs, are such as are placed in halls, for the use of servants or strangers waiting on business'.  One of the designs for hall chairs in Chippendale's The Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director, 3rd ed., 1762, pls. XVII, corresponds to the present pair of chairs.
