This fine mirror, with its mirror-glass bordered oval frame ornamented with delicate swags of husks, a vase and ram's head, is designed in the neo-classical manner as popularized by the architect Robert Adam in the 1770s. Designs for similar mirrors are shown in contemporary pattern books published by Matthias Lock, A New Book of Pier Mirrors, 1769, R. & J.
