the drop-in seats with 17th century silk covers woven with silver thread; each inside back rail with ivorine plaque W. F. GREENWOOD AND SONS LTD. / ANTIQUE DEALERS AND FURNISHERS / 24, STONEGATE. YORK; one with penciled inscription 22/3/47; one stamped IIII, the other IV.  Losses, repairs.

Condition

Overall good condition, areas of old worm throughout, each inside back rail with white ivorine plaque inscribed W.F. GREENWOOD AND SONS LTD./ANTIQUE DEALERS AND FURNISHERS/24. STONEGATE. YORK. Chair 'V' with age crack to center of cresting rail with subsequent minor loss to veneer, some old repaired breaks and patches to the stiles at join with cresting rails with some veneer patches; the splat with minor repaired crack to base; the left scrolled bracket to base of splat replaced, the right bracket with loss to the front veneer; the front left leg with a semi-circular age crack with three plugs to front; back of bottom of splat marked IIII; the apron with some vertical age cracks and some veneer patches and minor stress tear at front left corner, underside of back rail with chalked numerals W 81 9, drop-in seat reinforced with wood board, and with some loose webbing. Chair 'III' with minor age crack to center of cresting rail with some very minor chips to veneers, old plugged infilled repaired breaks to cresting rail at juncture with stiles with some veneer patches; left scroll to bottom of splat replaced; veneer of apron with some vertical age cracks, back of bottom of splat marked IV, underside of back rail with penciled inscription 22/3/47. Overall each with some old marks, scratches, scuffs and bruises, with minor wear to carving, and some veneer patches.
