the later egg-and-dart moulded cornice above a pair of glazed doors enclosing adjustable shelves, the base with a slide above a pair of shaped fielded panelled doors, on bracket feet
Condition
Overall with a good rich colour and surface. One pane of glass cracked. As stated in the catalogue the piece has probably been adapted from a larger item, the upper section has a join in the middle and the cornice appears to be a 19th century replacement. To the rear ends of the cornice are patched elements suggesting it has been cut to fit over a picture rail or such. The base shows a slightly unusual construction and with old marks and scratches to the sides. The shelf to the base apparently reused from another piece of case furniture as it shows wear consistent with once having supported a drawer. Overall an attractive piece which has been altered in size.
