Description
- 44.5cm, 17 1/2 in diameter
octofoil, on four curved panel supports, engraved with a contemporary coat-of-arms within a baroque cartouche encompassing two lions regardant and a mask
Condition
Fully hallmarked on front near rim, marks slightly worn from cleaning but still entirely visible, the engraved arms slightly more worn than the cartouche which is more deeply engraved. The border with one split to rim where it indents into body and a hairline crack below with an old bit of solder reinforcing it from behind. The rim of this salver is similar to that found on strawberry dishes of the period but it is extremely unusual to find it on an octofoil salver. The overall effect is very attractive.
