- 13cm 3/4 in high
The lobed circular foot with cast openwork stem of three entwined dolphins, the campana-shaped body decorated with a cast frieze of cherubs in shells boats (after a design by John Flaxman) below an engraved inscription on one side and the royal arms as borne by Queen Victoria on the other, detachable domed cover with convolvulus finial, the underside engraved in freehand script with the number 7313 (thought to be a Rundell's stock number), in original red baize-lined oak box with the printed paper label (distressed) of Rundell, Bridge & Co.
Catalogue Note
The inscription reads 'The Gift of Her Majesty Queen Victoria to Victor Buckley Her Godson May 1838'.
Victor Buckley, born on 28 April 1838, was the son of General Edward Pery Buckley and Lady Cattharine Pleydell-Bouverie. See footnote to lot 263.
