Description

  • 334.5cm, 13 1/2 in high
circular, engraved with an armorial cartouche and band of hatched strapwork and foliage, incorporating mirrored monograms at the part ivory swing handle and scroll bracket supports,  further engraved in the 18th century with bands of rococco shells, strapwork and foliage, engraved with a coat-of-arms and crest

Provenance

The arms are those of Thorold impaling Greene for the Right Reverend Anthony Wilson Thorold, Bishop of Rochester 1877-90 and of Winchester 1890-95, who was born 13 June 1825 and married 10 January 1850 Henrietta, daughter of Thomas Greene. (Burke's Peerage, 1999, p.2820).

Condition

Burner cover with lion passant, burner without date letter but with two maker's marks, some normal wear, general condition reasonably good.
