Catalogue Note
The present mirror is based on a design for a wall mirror by Robert Adam for Kenwood House, Hampstead, (see illustration), published in The works in architecture of Robert and James Adam, vol. 1 (1778), pt. II, pl. VIII. It was designed for use in the small parlour on the east side of of the north front of the house, known as the breakfast room. The original was carved by Sefferin Nelson. Although other furniture carved by him still exists in situ, the mirror on which the present lot is based, is now lost.
