A French gilt-bronze-mounted kingwood and tulipwood bureau plat in Louis XV style, late 19th century

Description

  • 79cm. high, 163cm. wide, 80cm. deep; 2ft.6½ in., 5ft.3¾in., 2ft.7in.
of serpentine form, with a gilt-bronze banded leather inset top above three drawers, opposing dummy drawers, the sides with a mask of Bacchus, on cabriole legs terminating in gilt-bronze scrolled feet with gilt-bronze scroll and foliate mounts throughtout

Condition

Colour of veneers overall slightly darker with more contrast, and mounts less greenish than in catalogue photograph. The gilt-bronze clasp on the rear left corner is loose and just needs repinning. Minor sections of veneer missing e.g. below Bacchic mask on left side, and especially on reverse. There is some rubbing on the gilt-bronze border on the top as visible from photograph. The lockplates are English and later replacements. Requires some minor attention to missing veneers, but in otherwise good condition.
