A pair of Meissen armorial tureens and covers mid 19th Century

Description

  • crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue, incised numerals
  • 25.5cm., 10in. wide and 20cm., 8in. high
each with a double-walled  pierced body painted with gilt scrolls, reserved on each side with painted panels of quayside and street scenes, applied with hanging flower swags held by putti, set with two female bust handles, the interior gilt, the cover with further panels painted with gentlemen and landscapes in puce camaieu and coats of arms, surmounted by a crown knop held by two putti, the underside of cover moulded with colourful flowers within a gilt border (some restoration)

Condition

one tureen with restoration to head of one putto, one feather of ladies bust broken, the cover with restoration to one cushion tassle and cross of crown and small area of re-touching to gilding of rim (c. 0.4cm.), the other with restoration to two festoon leaves and lines, and one feather to the ladies bust, the cover with restoration to cross of crown, otherwise in good condition
