Description

  • approx. 58cm. high, 32cm. diameter; 1ft.10¾in., 1ft.½in.
of globular form surmounted by a winged cherub blowing pipes above a band of acanthus, with a pierced cover with two graduated tiers of oval mother of pearl shells interposed by vine leaves opening to reveal a set comprising three decanters with stoppers and nine glasses all with faceted bodies and octagonal bases, the lower section similarly decorated to the cover on a pierced scrolled rocaille flower and leaf cast base

Condition

Colour of gilding less green more golden and attractive than in the catalogue photograph. The cherub on the top is possibly associated as it is a different colour gilding to the rest and does not fit exactly on the top. The gilt-bronze is slightly dirty and tarnished and would benefit from a light clean according to taste. There is some very minor areas of resoldering to the gilt-bronze. The shells are also slightly dirty and would benefit from a light clean and some of them show evidence of old glue repairs where they have been refixed. There are some minor cracks in a few of the shells, but these are in generally good order. In overall good condition.
