Description
- each 90cm. high; 2ft.11in.
one with a neo-classical female figure in drapery, the other with a male figure leaning against a candelabrum with six scrolled candlearms with serrated nozzles with a further raised central candle-nozzle, on a triform base cast with winged female figures on hoof feet, on a verde antico marble plinth applied with neo-classical figures
Condition
Colour of marble slightly lighter and the gilding less green and more golden and attractive than in the catalogue photograph. The quality of the casting is very good and the model is most unusual. The candelabrum with the female is slightly unstable and can easily be tightenend up. The candelabra are slightly dirty and would benefit from a light clean according to taste. There is some minor rubbing and tarnishing generally commensurate with age. Very minor chips to the marble bases, however there is a medium sized chip to the rear left corner of the marble base of the female candelabrum and another to the rear left corner of the base of the male candelabrum which do not detract from the piece and are not too noticeable. A single gilt-bronze scroll cast with the mask of Diana on the top of the candlearms is missing on both. There is evidence of an old glue repair where the base of the female candelabrum has been reattached and both have later wooden supports on the underside of the base. Once cleaned these will look even more impressive. In overall good condition.
