A fine ormolu mantel clock with enamel dial by Joseph Coteau, French

5-inch enamel dial with concentric date ring and finely pierced gilt hands, inscribed A Paris and signed at the base Coteau, bell striking movement with silk suspension, the drum surmounted by Cupid amidst billowing clouds, supported on a rectangular column set with a mount of ribbon-tied trophies and flanked by two adorsed female figures holding and supporting cornucopias of fruit and flowers, the breakfront base set with a pair of flaming athéniennes and inset with a cockerel

Dial in generally very good original condition with a very minor hair crack at 12 and very minor edge chip at 2. Movement appears clean and looks as though it would run. Case in good condition retaining much original gilding, some very minor marks and rubbing. With pendulum but no winder.

Joseph Coteau, a famous enameller of clock dials, was born in 1740 and died in 1812. He is recorded as working in Rue Poupée, Paris in 1778.
