Description

  • each 35.5cm. high; 1ft. 2in.
each with a foliate cast neck above a gourd-shaped body painted with reserves of vases and Chinese utensils and writing implements, with rope-twist handles terminating in acanthus leaves, on a shaped base cast with flowers on a stippled ground within a rope-twist border; one vase restored, the other with a chip to the base

Condition

Colour of blue porcelain is slightly darker and the gilt-bronze is less green and more golden and attractive than in the catalogue photograph. The gilt-bronze neck of one is slightly darker than the other. The gilt-bronze is slightly dirty and would benefit from a light cleaning. The porcelain has firing flaws, and some minor losses of glaze around the foot, together with a small chip to the reserve of the smaller one, and the neck also feels possibly restored. One vase is slightly bigger overall than the other, and slightly darker in colour. There is a small U-shaped section cut out of the base, where probably these were previously fitted as lamps. In overall good condition.
