An ormolu mounted turtleshell boulle quarter repeating bracket clock, Josué Robert, Chaux de Fonds

12½-inch twenty-five piece enamel cartouche dial signed Josué Robert, Horloger du Roy de Prusse, a la Chaux de Fonds, the similarly signed movement with verge escapement and silk suspension, numbered outside count wheel, striking and quarter repeating on two bells, the waisted case with concave-sided cresting and glazed side panels, veneered with shell and inlaid with engraved brass foliate scrolls and stained ivory flowers, the whole with crisply cast and chased rococo scroll mounts; on a conforming bracket

Dial in generally good condition, hair crack to XI, damage and old repair to top right of central plaque, minute hand shortened and repaired. Movement appear to be complete and looks as though it would run but may benefit from a clean. Case mounts are rather dirty but appear to retain their original gilding, some losses to brass inlay and we have some pieces, other old repairs and minor losses to shell and inlay throughout, bracket as the clock. With pendulum, winder and bag of brass inlay but no case key.

Josué Robert (1691-1771) was made clockmaker to the King of Prussia in 1725. He founded the firm of J Robert et Fils which continued into the 19th Century.
