PAINT SURFACE
The painting appears to be in excellent condition.
ULTRAVIOLET
Examination under ultraviolet light reveals very minor retouching to the grass lower left, and minor details of the castle. It also reveals uneven areas of surface dirt overall.

Held in a Regency frame.

Catalogue Note
The painting is recorded in Grant's sitter's book for July 1876 ; 'Equestrian Portrait of Lady Victoria Leveson-Gower for Earl Granville.'
Lady Victoria was the eldest daughter of Granville George Leveson-Gower, 2nd Earl Granville and his second wife, Castalia Rosalind, daughter of Walter Frederick Campbell of Islay. On 8th September 1896 she married the barrister Harold John Hastings Russell, nephew of the 9th Duke of Bedford.
