Catalogue Note
Ann Gardiner sat for Nathaniel Hone with her eldest son, Kirkham (b. 1774) (see The Irish Sale, Sotheby's London, 21 May 1998, lot 232). She was the daughter of the Rt. Hon. Charles Gardiner M.P. (1720-1769) of Dublin and his wife Florinda (c. 1722) daughter of Robert Norman of Lagore, County Meath whom he married in 1741. Charles Gardiner inherited a fortune from his maternal great grandfather, William, 1st Viscount Mountjoy, on the death of William, 3rd Viscount Mountjoy and 1st Earl of Blessington in 1769. In 1762, Anne married William Power Keating Trench M.P. of Garbally, County Galway.
