Catalogue Note

These two charming portraits are representative of Devis's early style of painting. The artist painted a number of small-scale portraits of his family on copper. These portraits would also seem to relate to the portrait, of the same size, of his half-brother, Anthony Devis, which was sold at Sotheby's on 12th June 2003, lot 82.
